6 Important Ways To Prepare For Your Photoshoot
Knowledge is key when it comes to everything. That includes photoshoots. It’s good to plan ahead and be prepared before your shoot so that you’re not panicked or stressed the day of. Here are six important things to consider before you head into an photoshoot..
#1 - Give yourself enough time to get ready
When preparing for your photoshoot, you should make sure you have ample time to get ready so that you’re not rushing around at the last minute and risking being late for your shoot. You want to look and feel your best during your photo session, not feel rushed and unhappy with your appearance. Also, if you’re stressing over being on time, it’s going to show in your images. Relax, give yourself time, arrive on time, and be stress-free.
#2 - Prepare your clothes before the day of your shoot
We’ve all done it before. We think we know what we want to wear for a special event but when it comes down to the day, that particular outfit doesn’t quite work and needs to go bye-bye. It’s a good idea to try your outfit on several days before the shoot just to make sure it fits right, and prepare your clothes at least a day ahead. It’s also wise to have a backup outfit planned.
#3 - Know where you’re going
Knowing your location is important for a few reasons. To start off, it’s good to know how long it will take you to get there so you can plan accordingly and arrive on time. You can also plan your outfit accordingly too. For example; If you’re doing a photoshoot in a wooded area, you’ll probably want to wear lighter, solid colors with no pattern (I will write about this topic more in depth very soon). Other good reasons for needing to know where you’re going is safety. Is the area safe? Is is kid-friendly? Is your location choice a good match for the vision of your shoot? Be prepared.
#4 - Make sure you know who you’re meeting
Safety first! You’re meeting a complete stranger off of the internet. Even if you’re doing a group photoshoot, it’s always wise to know what your photographer looks like and at least know a few details about them. I always tell my clients what car I’m driving, what I’ll be wearing, and where exactly at location I’ll be waiting. I also make sure I know who I’m meeting before I head out and I notify loved ones of my location.
#5 - Make sure payment method is discussed beforehand
Different photographers accept different methods of payment. Your photographer should inform you of their preferred method(s), but just in case they don’t, it’s a good idea to ask anyway, just to avoid any awkward conversations at the end of your session.
#6 Relax and have fun!
Go into your photoshoot with a positive mindset and know that your photographer wants to have a good time with you. The thought of posing in front of a stranger and their camera can be a daunting one, especially if you haven’t got much experience with it, but either way you’re there to have a good time and create some good art together. Your photographer isn’t the only artist here. It’s a team effort. Enjoy yourself, laugh at your awkwardness, and feel free to talk to your photographer mid-shoot. They love it and it will help you relax.
